Blood Pressure Monitoring
Blood pressure (BP), sometimes referred to as arterial blood pressure, is the pressure exerted by circulating blood upon the walls of blood vessels, and is one of the principle vital signs.
A person’s blood pressure is usually expressed in terms of the systolic pressure over diastolic pressure and is measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg), for example 140/90.
Persistent high blood pressure is one of the risk factors for strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysms, and is the leading cause of chronic renal failure.
Even moderate elevation of arterial pressure leads to shortened life expectancy. At severely high pressures, mean arterial pressures 50% or more above average, a person can expect to live no more than a few years unless appropriately treated.
All of our pharmacies offer free blood pressure monitoring. Speak to one of our team members to have your blood pressure checked today.
Home Medicine Reviews
Have you ever heard of a home medication review?
They are particular helpful for people on multiple medications and can be arranged by asking a GP for a referral.
A Friendlies Discount Pharmacy pharmacist then visits the home to discuss the current medications a person is taking. The pharmacist is looking to see if medications are taken regularly and correctly, if any are out of date, if there are any contraindications between medicines, and educates the patient about any issues that they may have about their medication.
This is a free service funded by Medicare. Should you wish to find out more information on having a medication review, contact us at local Friendlies Discount Pharmacy or speak to your doctor or healthcare professional.
