(Verbascum thapsus)
Description
Mullein, is a common roadside plant that has large leaves and small, dense, yellow flowers. The dried leaves, flowers, and roots all serve as remedies.
It has a strong binding action on tissue, and therefore is useful in treating diarrhoea and haemorrhoids. It also helps rid the body of excess mucus from the lungs.
How It May Benefit You
Take internally for:
- respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, coughs, colds, flu, asthma
- gastrointestinal ailments such as stomach cramps, diarrhoea.
Apply externally for:
- external ulcers,
- tumours,
- haemorrhoids.
- ear problems.
Caution
You may experience mild stomach upset or diarrhoea. If you have a history of cancer, consult your doctor before taking this herb internally. The mullein seeds are toxic. Do not take mullein if you are pregnant or nursing a baby.
